Short definition

The same as a playthrough requirement: how many times a bonus must be wagered before winnings can be withdrawn.

What does a turnover requirement mean?

A turnover requirement is how many times a bonus must be bet before its winnings can be withdrawn: at 30×, a €20 bonus means €600 of bets. It is also called a wagering or playthrough requirement, and which games you play changes how quickly you clear it.

The wagering requirement (or playthrough requirement) shows how many times a bonus must be wagered before the winnings earned with it can be withdrawn. For example, a 35× requirement means a €10 bonus must be played through with €350 worth of bets.

Different games contribute to the wagering at different rates: slots usually 100%, table games and live casino often less or not at all. So your game choice directly affects how quickly the requirement is met.

The wagering requirement is the single most important indicator of a bonus's real value. A low requirement (e.g. 20–30×) is player-friendly; a very high one can mean the bonus is hard to turn into real money in practice. Always check it before taking a bonus.

What a wagering requirement costs in practice

The terms state exactly whether the requirement applies to the bonus alone or to the bonus plus the deposit, and the difference is large. Example: a 50 euro deposit, a 50 euro bonus and a 35x requirement. If it applies to the bonus only, you must wager 1,750 euros; if it applies to bonus plus deposit, 3,500 euros.

The amount wagered is not the same as the amount lost. The expected loss is roughly the wagered amount multiplied by the house edge: on 1,750 euros of bets at a 4% edge (96% RTP) that is about 70 euros, which is more than the 50 euro bonus. A bonus does not make the game profitable, and its real value is usually lower than the headline figure. Work through your own example with the wagering calculator.

What affects completing the requirement

  • Game contribution. If a slot counts 100% but another game counts only 10%, you must wager 17,500 euros instead of 1,750 euros.
  • Validity period. The requirement must be completed within the deadline in the terms, otherwise the bonus and winnings expire.
  • Maximum bet. Exceeding the limit can void even the part you have already completed.
  • Bonus type. With a sticky bonus the bonus money itself cannot be withdrawn, so the requirement only decides when you can access your winnings.

The same concept under another name is the playthrough requirement. The calculation is walked through in calculating the wagering requirement. If completing the requirement starts to push you to bet more than you planned, stop; support is available at 15410.ee. General background: Wikipedia: House edge.
