The option to cancel a pending withdrawal and bring the money back to the playing account, where it can be wagered again.
A withdrawal reversal (reverse withdrawal) means that the player cancels a withdrawal that has already been requested but is still pending, and the money moves back to the casino playing balance. This can only be done while the request has the status “pending”, i.e. during the pending time. Once the casino has already sent the money to the payment provider, a reversal is no longer possible.
Usually, in the casino cashier or transaction history, you see a button next to a pending withdrawal, such as “cancel” or “reverse”. When you press it:
In some cases the entire amount is reversed, in others you can choose part of the amount. If you made the withdrawal in several parts (see partial payout), each part may be cancellable separately. A reversal is not the same as a withdrawal rejection: a rejection is made by the casino, while a reversal is made by the player.
Whether a reversal is possible also depends on the payment method. In Pay N Play casinos, where the withdrawal is often sent immediately via bank link, there is hardly any pending status and therefore no option to cancel either. With a classic casino account, where the withdrawal goes through a manual check, the cancel button may remain visible until the payments department has reviewed the request. If you cannot find a cancel button, it is not necessarily an error but a deliberate choice by the casino.
A reversal is convenient if you made a withdrawal by mistake or to the wrong place. In practice, however, it is often used impulsively: the withdrawal is waiting, the player is bored or wants to try “just a bit more”, and the money goes back into play. Because casino games have a house edge, the longer you play, the lower the chance that the win remains. A long waiting time and an easy cancel button can encourage this behaviour.
That is why regulators in several markets have restricted withdrawal reversals or required that a pending withdrawal cannot be brought back into play. In Estonia the rules for organising gambling are set out in the Gambling Act, but an individual casino may also prohibit or allow reversals itself. The exact procedure is in the casino's terms.
The topic is covered in more detail in the blog post withdrawal reversal, or reverse.
It can. If you had an active bonus and the money returns to your balance, the bonus terms may apply to it again. Check the casino's rules before cancelling.
Repeated reversals can be a sign that gambling is no longer fully under control. In that case it is worth considering self-exclusion or a gambling restriction, which you can apply for via the Estonian Tax and Customs Board. The casino should not bring your withdrawal back to your balance without your consent. If this happens, ask for a written explanation and save your transaction history. Such a case is also important information for a possible complaint.
