Short definition

A first-deposit offer for new players, usually a deposit match and/or free spins.

A welcome bonus is an offer a casino gives a new player on registration or on the first deposit(s). It's often a deposit match with free spins added. At Estonian casinos licensed by the MTA (Maksu- ja Tolliamet) the offer is usually activated at the cashier once the account is open and identity verification is done — play is permitted from age 21.

What "100% up to €100" actually means

The match percentage tells you how much bonus money the casino adds on top of your deposit; the figure after it is the cap. An illustrative walk-through:

  • Deposit €40 → €40 bonus → €80 playable balance.
  • Deposit €100 → €100 bonus → €200 playable balance.
  • Deposit €150 → still €100 bonus (the cap) → €250 playable balance.

In other words, to use the offer in full you would deposit exactly what the cap allows. Anything above that adds nothing to the bonus — it only increases the amount of your own money at risk.

Minimum deposit and activation

Every offer sets a minimum; a deposit below it leaves the bonus unactivated, and it can't be added afterwards. Before paying, check the terms for whether your payment method qualifies for the offer, and whether the bonus has to be ticked at the cashier or is credited automatically.

Wagering: on the bonus, or on deposit + bonus?

This is the single most important detail, and it's where two identically advertised offers part ways. A wagering requirement can be calculated on the bonus amount alone, or on deposit and bonus combined. An illustrative comparison with a €100 bonus at 35×: if the requirement applies to the bonus only, total turnover is 100 × 35 = €3,500; if the same 35× applies to deposit + bonus (€200), turnover is 200 × 35 = €7,000 — twice as much, from an identical headline number. The mechanics are explained at length in how casino wagering requirements work, and you can run your own offer's figures through the wagering calculator.

The free-spin component

Free spins are often released in batches over several days, always at a fixed value per spin and on one or a few selected games. What matters is whether winnings from those spins land as real cash or convert into bonus money carrying its own wagering requirement and its own expiry. That single question decides most of what this part of the offer is really worth.

How to compare two offers

  • Compare total turnover in euros, not the percentage or the multiplier.
  • Look at the validity window — a short deadline forces a faster staking pace.
  • Check game contribution rates: if table games count only partially, clearing takes far longer.
  • Check the maximum bet allowed while a bonus is active, and the cap on withdrawing bonus winnings.

The bonus calculator does the side-by-side quickly: a smaller offer with easier terms is frequently worth more than a big percentage with a harsh requirement.

A welcome bonus can also be split across several first deposits (a bonus package). Check each part's terms separately, as the wagering requirement and validity period may differ.

Is the offer worth it mathematically

You can roughly estimate a bonus like this: the bonus minus the wagering volume multiplied by the house edge. Take a 100 € bonus, a 35× requirement on the bonus amount only, and a game with a RTP of 96% (house edge 4%). The wagering volume is 3,500 €, and the average loss over that volume is 3,500 × 0.04 = 140 €. The bonus gave 100 €, so the average value of the offer is −40 €: the bonus does not cover the cost that meeting the requirement brings on average. The same offer with a 20× requirement: 2,000 × 0.04 = 80 €, an average result of +20 €. This is a long-run average. With one specific bonus you can lose the whole balance or win a lot, and the calculation assumes you play through the full volume. You can try your own numbers in the expected loss calculator.

Sticky or non-sticky: which money is used first

With a sticky bonus you cannot withdraw the bonus amount; it is deducted from the balance on withdrawal. Example: deposit 100 €, bonus 100 €, balance 300 € after wagering — you can generally withdraw 200 €. With a non-sticky bonus your own money is played first and the bonus only activates once that is gone; if you win with your own money and request a withdrawal before touching the bonus, the bonus usually expires. Which variant applies is stated in the terms and changes the value of the offer more than the match percentage does.

What to check before the first deposit

  • The validity period in days: your pace of meeting the requirement follows from how many days you have.
  • Whether the bonus can be declined at the deposit step and what happens if the casino has already added it. Ask support in writing and save the answer.
  • Whether your payment method qualifies: some methods, for example e-wallets, are often excluded from the offer. For the link between bank payments and the bonus, see the pangakasiinod.ee article.
  • The maximum bet while playing with the bonus (maximum bet rule) and the cap on bonus winnings (maximum withdrawal).
  • Which games count towards the requirement (game contribution).

Common mistakes

  • Increasing the deposit only to fill the cap. A bigger deposit means more risk even when the bonus stops growing; choose the amount from your budget, not from the offer.
  • Raising the stake to speed up the requirement. This is a common reason why the bonus and the winnings are voided.
  • Not saving a screenshot of the terms. Save the terms on the day you take the bonus; documenting a problem is covered in the kiiredvaljamaksed.ee article.
  • Systematically exploiting offers (bonus hunting). Casinos limit it in their terms and winnings may be voided on a breach.

Rules and responsible gambling

The obligations of a gambling operator and advertising are regulated by the Gambling Act, the current text of which is on Riigi Teataja. A bonus does not reduce the risk of the game; it adds a requirement you have to fulfil. If you notice you are playing mainly to use up a bonus, take a break and read the responsible gambling page; help is also available at 15410.ee.

Example: “100% up to €100 + 50 free spins” means that to a €100 deposit €100 of bonus and 50 spins on a selected game are added.
